Paddling in the Pacific

For the last couple of months I have enjoyed reading about Paul Theroux’s adventure in the Pacific. Even though I sometimes wonder if he enjoyed it, judging from his sometimes harsh comments about the people living on these islands.

It’s a doorstop of a book (which is why it has been on my shelf for quite some time) but I also felt as I read it that it was the kind of book that you have to take your time with. Just like Theroux paddling among the Pacific islands, I took a leisurely trip around these tropical islands in the southern hemisphere.

Some books are like that. Perfect to be read slowly, picked up every now and then and return to its interesting pages. Whilst there are other books you stay up all night for just so you can finish it. Or the books you spend all day thinking about and can’t wait to get home to at night for an hour on the couch with the characters.
